Help us to fight Injustice

The Crown Prosecution Service has refused to proceed with a prosecution against Oxford University for allowing a monkey to unduly suffer, even after a complaint by Oxford's own veterinarian. See this article in The Times

Please contact the Thames Valley Police and Baljit Ubhey, Chief Crown Prosecutor, and politely ask them to re-examine this complaint and officially take appropriate action. Phone numbers and addresses are listed below. Sample letters are also below if you would like to use them.

Baljit Ubhey
Chief Crown Prosecutor
The Courtyard
Lombard Street
Abingdon
Oxon OX14 5SE

Dear Ms. Ubhey:

I am a concerned citizen and reside in [enter county and country]. I recently learned of the abuse perpetrated upon a monkey at Oxford University.

I am informed that the Thames Valley Police handled the complaint by a veterinarian working for Oxford University, and that the Crown Prosecution Service refused to file charges.

Ms. Ubhey, as you are probably well aware, Oxford University has been the subject of various complaints regarding its treatment of animals, by not only animal welfare organisations, but by concerned citizens and students. This is not the first time abuse has occurred.

Ms. Ubhey, it is your responsibility as a prosecutor, to take the appropriate steps to investigate and charge criminal offenses. If Oxford University's own veterinarian took it upon himself to complain, putting himself at jeopardy, don't you think that this may be serious cause for concern?

I strongly believe that should you take action, you will set an important precedent that cruelty upon animals used for medical research will not be tolerated. As I am sure you read in the Times, it was stated, "The Times has learnt that the laboratory vet wanted the animal put out of its misery, but was said to have been refused on the ground that the animal was an asset."

I sincerely hope that being an "asset" is not acceptable to your department as a reason for abuse. If that were the case, floodgates would be opened across the world over to allow for human abuse as well.

Please, Ms. Ubhey, I strongly urge you to re-open this investigation and bring the person who committed the abuse to justice.

Sincerely,

[name]

SAMPLE LETTER #2

[insert date]

Thames Valley Police
St. Aldates
Oxford OX1 1SZ
England

To Whom It May Concern:

I am a concerned citizen and reside in [enter county and country]. I recently learned of the abuse perpetrated upon a monkey at Oxford University.

I am informed that your department handled the complaint by a veterinarian working for Oxford University.

Unfortunately, I was saddened to hear that no action was taken regarding the abuse upon that animal.

As a law-abiding citizen, and someone who is concerned for the welfare of people and animals, I am dismayed to hear that after such a horrible report, no action would be taken.

What kind of precedent are we setting for future generations if we ignore abuse such as this?

I strongly urge you to re-open this investigation and bring the person who committed the abuse, to justice.

Sincerely,

[name]
