Contact the FundersIn 2003 charitable institutions and businesses paid a staggering £92,959,813.72 to Oxford University. Combine that with a further £69,923,045.18 from research councils and Government agencies, and you have an impressive total of £162,882,858.90. The figure far exceeds what the university would receive per annum from students. Since such large sums of money are at stake, it is hardly surprising that Oxford University have been keen to silence the SPEAK campaign (unsuccessfully, one might add) by taking out injunctions against us. The bottom line is: Oxford University, can't afford the truth about the horrors that go on in their research labs to get out to the people and businesses funding them. But it is absolutely vital that those funding the university are made aware of exactly what is going on inside the University's laboratories. Each week over the next few months we will be publishing the names of companies and charitable organisations that help to prop up this institution, which is responsible for the deaths of thousands of animals every year. Please inform the companies listed below about Oxford University's appalling animal research history. You could, for example, inform them of the facts surrounding the case of the vivisector investigated by the police for cruelty to a monkey. You could tell them of the type of experiments being performed on primates, or let them know that workers employed by the university have attacked a 70 year-old protestor. Ask them whether they really want their money going to an institution that upholds the continuation of such injustices and brutalities. Please remember to be polite and courteous in your communications. Most of the companies listed do not finance vivisection. But we at SPEAK believe that these companies have a right to know how their money is being spent. Oxford University and other vivisecting institutions may wish such information to be withheld from those that have a right to know, but we firmly believe that the dissemination of information is part of the democratic process, which enables people to make an informed decision about what they do and do not wish to support. Providing the funders with this information gives them the opportunity to make that choice. Leaflets(flyers)
