Zen And The Art Of Security ManagementIn an article in the Sunday Times on 29th January, the Times reported that "Up to 100 security experts, including former soldiers, have been recruited for “counter-surveillance” operations and protection of key workers" at the South Parks Rd site. Tell us something we don’t know! SPEAK have known the identity of some of the companies charged with protecting the identity of the Building Contractor for some six months! One might ask, if they can’t even keep their own identity a secret, how does Oxford University think they’ll manage to keep the identity of the builders a secret? Well that’s a good question and one to which we are still trying to work out the answer, but in the meantime we are compiling a dossier on the individuals concerned. So let’s have a little look at one of the companies concerned. The firm operates under the name of Oc---- Ltd and are based in Herefordshire, a favoured haunt of ex Special Forces chaps/esses. According to the spin on their website the company "was founded by ex UK Special Forces personnel who had gained considerable experience in the security management industry during the course of their military careers". (In case you haven’t got it, that’s just a bit of jargon for saying they’re trained killers). All this rather begs the question: “What are Oxford University doing employing people, who are or were in the killing business?” Though, hell - maybe we’ve just got it wrong, and they’re really trained in the ancient and noble art of origami, in which case, power to you, guys! SPEAK like to pride ourselves on being effective whilst remaining professional; knowing that we’re under surveillance by these origami-loving pussycats certainly makes us feel a whole lot safer - its almost like having your own close protection team without having to pay for it. What’s even better is its Oxford University who are footing the bill! The website states that: "Oc---- is one of the most up to date security and risk management companies in the world. Our main core of personnel are from UK Special Forces, Armed Services and Police Specialist units". Hmmm – so where exactly does the “security and risk management” bit come in, then? How effective are these alleged management skills in reality? If SPEAK so easily tracked down this company and their other companies, maybe Oxford University should be worrying about their choice of ‘bodyguards’? If you were their client or the building contractor you wouldn’t be reassured by their rhetoric, and you’d be fast-forwarding to find another firm. But hey – not for us to nanny Oxford University. As we know, actions SPEAK louder than words, and the employment by Oxford University of this motley crew illustrates how effective the animal rights movement has become. It’s a clear signal that we’re doing something right, and that it’s only a matter of time before we notch up another victory. The forces lined up against the animal rights movement lack one basic ingredient needed to win the battle and that’s belief that they have the moral high ground! We in the movement share the belief and certainty that what we are fighting for is morally right, and that this right is irrefutable. The communal ideology of the state and its various subsidiaries, from the highest to the lowest are driven by profit and power – but what they overlook in all this is the fundamental truth pointed out by Jung (an anti-vivisectionist himself) in his famous “The Undiscovered Self”: that in the end, individual humans being will always rise up to assert their claims. He wrote further that: “resistance to the organized mass can be effected only by the one who is as well organised in (their) individuality as the mass itself”. We should all of us commit to that truth and assert our claims. In the commitment to fight for the rights of individual animals, we are united and thus unbeatable. We have one goal – that is to fight for and protect the millions of animals destined to be tortured every day of their lives, to die alone in barren cages so that a few privileged individuals can make a quick buck. Rhetoric has its place, and so does action. Let’s cut to the chase and get out there and win the animals their FREEDOM! |
