Travis Perkins withdraw building services from animal torture centre

It recently came to our attention that Travis Perkins, the largest suppliers of building materials in this country, were providing the raw materials to build the new animal research centre at Oxford. SPEAK contacted them to request that they withdraw their services to the Oxford building project - a project which - if completed - will result in the suffering of thousands of defenceless animals.

They were given several days to carry out their own investigations and we're delighted to let you know that today (Tue 30 March 2004) they e-mailed us the following announcement: "We will no longer be delivering to the South Parks Road site"! This news must come as a great blow not just to the building contractors but to the University itself, who had probably hoped they would be able to avoid opposition.

Today's decision by Travis Perkins sends a clear message to the University and all those companies thinking of collaborating with animal abusers: Halt this sick project NOW.

The animal rights movement won a historic victory at Cambridge, and we have no intention of losing this battle. That's a promise.

Please send e-mails supporting Travis Perkins' decision. It is refreshing to hear of a company reaching an ethical decision rather than one based on the hope of a quick profit made at the expense of animals.
